Spicers is one of the UK's major suppliers of tea and coffee, but the origins of the company, which bears the founder's name, were very different indeed. It was in 1934 that 24-year-old Keith Spicer founded the business, using the parlour of the family home in Bournemouth as the blending department and the distribution fleet consisting of a well used but serviceable butchers bicycle.
The company grew rapidly thereafter becoming an important supplier to the local hotel and catering industries and by 1970 had moved to purpose built premises. In 1992 the company was acquired by the family owned Laurens Spethmann Holdings of Hamburg, one of the continent's largest tea packing operations with a group turnover in excess of £350 million.
Spicers is a founder member of the Ethical Tea Partnership. For further information please click on the link.
